Being Single as a Wedding Photographer

November 7, 2023

It was a beautiful sunny day at my favorite local coffee shop. I was sitting across from an Italian friend (who happens to be a model and businessman). I frequent this coffee shop a ton and love running into my favorite people. It’s a great way to stay connected during the week! Plus, the coffee is fantastic. Before I started on some work, my friend asked me an insightful question. “As a wedding photographer, do you ever feel like you’re missing out because you’re single?”

Here’s my honest answer…

Photographing weddings is not something that gives me a feeling of lack! I am so grateful for this, too. I often get so emotionally attached, so close to these couples, their story, and giving them photos that reflect them…that a feeling of lack is not even present in my mind!

Sure, other things can sometimes give me FOMO, but photographing a wedding for a couple and being fully present as I serve them by documenting their story is an incredible gift! There’s nothing like being so connected to a couple that you find yourself just as emotional at their first dance as the family members. I love first dances. This is part of the reason why I love spending time getting to know my couples as much as possible before their wedding day.

…yes, I am looking forward to my own wedding day…

So, yes, I am looking forward to my own wedding day, but I don’t feel like I am missing out while photographing all these beautiful days for other brides. I do know one thing: if I end up getting married I will reflect on all the tips and tricks my couples have shared with me throughout the years! I know planning a wedding is no small thing so I’ve been soaking in all the advice in preparation.

Until then, it is truly an honor to be a wedding photographer. I know not everyone has the freedom to pursue what they love and serve others through art, but it is something I won’t ever take for granted. Thanks to every couple who has made this all possible! You all bless me!
